Frequently Asked Questions

Are my images uploaded?

No. Compression happens inside your browser, so your images never leave your device.

Will my photos look worse?

On Recommended, most people cannot tell the difference on a phone or laptop screen. Use the Original and Compressed preview to check before you download.

How do I get a photo under 500 KB or 100 KB?

Type the size in Target Size. We try lower quality settings until the file fits, and shrink the dimensions too if quality alone is not enough. The result is saved as JPG, or WebP if the image has a transparent background.

What happens to PNG files?

PNG cannot be made smaller by lowering quality. With Auto, PNGs without transparency become JPG, and transparent ones become WebP so the background stays see-through. Choose PNG to keep the format; then only the resizing in Recommended and Strong makes it smaller.

Is it free?

Yes. Compressing and downloading each image is free, up to 10 at once. Downloading everything as one ZIP, or compressing a bigger batch, unlocks after a short ad.

What do the levels do?

Light keeps full size at high quality. Recommended uses balanced quality and limits the longest side to 2560 px. Strong uses lower quality and limits it to 1600 px, which is still plenty for phones and social media.
