Frequently Asked Questions
What are the PAYE rates in Kenya for 2026?
Monthly taxable pay is taxed at 10% on the first KSh 24,000, 25% on the next KSh 8,333, 30% on the next KSh 467,667, 32.5% on the next KSh 300,000 and 35% above KSh 800,000. Personal relief of KSh 2,400 a month is then taken off. Proposals to cut PAYE have been discussed but were not law when we last checked.
How much is NSSF from February 2026?
You and your employer each pay 6%. Tier I is 6% of pay up to KSh 9,000 (KSh 540) and Tier II is 6% of pay between KSh 9,000 and KSh 108,000, so the most an employee pays is KSh 6,480 a month.
How are SHIF and the Housing Levy charged?
SHIF is 2.75% of gross pay with a minimum of KSh 300. The Affordable Housing Levy is 1.5% of gross pay from you and another 1.5% from your employer. Since December 2024 both are deducted before PAYE is worked out.
Are pension contributions tax-free?
NSSF and registered pension contributions are deducted before PAYE up to KSh 30,000 a month in total, under the Tax Laws (Amendment) Act 2024.
Is this an official KRA calculator?
No. This is an estimate, not official tax advice. It uses published KRA, NSSF and SHA rates, but insurance relief, mortgage interest and your employer’s payroll can change the figure, so check your payslip.
Does it work for yearly salaries?
Yes. Switch Pay Period to Yearly and enter your annual figures. PAYE is worked out monthly, as KRA does, and multiplied by 12.
