Frequently Asked Questions
What are the income tax slabs for 2026-27?
For income year 2026-27 (1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027) the first Tk 400,000 is tax-free for most people. Then: next Tk 300,000 at 10%, next Tk 400,000 at 15%, next Tk 500,000 at 20%, next Tk 2,000,000 at 25% and the rest at 30%. The Finance Act 2026 removed the old 5% slab and raised the tax-free limit from the Tk 375,000 first proposed in the budget to Tk 400,000.
Who gets a higher tax-free limit?
Women and people aged 65 or over: Tk 450,000. Persons with disability and third-gender taxpayers: Tk 525,000. War-wounded gazetted freedom fighters: Tk 550,000. Parents or guardians of a person with disability get a further Tk 50,000, which is not included here.
What is the salary exemption?
One third of your income from employment, up to a maximum of Tk 500,000, is exempt from tax. It replaces the old separate exemptions for house rent, medical and conveyance allowances. The calculator deducts it automatically.
What is the minimum tax?
If your income is above the tax-free limit, you pay at least Tk 5,000 even if the slabs give less. New taxpayers may pay a lower minimum of Tk 1,000, which is not modelled here.
Is this an official NBR calculator?
No. This is an estimate, not official tax advice. The figures come from the Finance Act 2026 schedule as published in professional summaries, because the official gazette text could not be read in full; check with the National Board of Revenue (NBR) or a tax adviser before filing your return.
Does it include the investment tax rebate?
No. The investment rebate for savings such as DPS, savings certificates, life insurance and provident fund contributions can lower your tax, but its rules are not modelled here, so your actual tax may be lower. Provident fund deductions and employer contributions are not included either.
