Frequently Asked Questions

What contributions come off a French salary in 2026?

For a private-sector employee: old-age insurance 6.90% up to the social security ceiling (48,060 € a year in 2026) plus 0.40% on all pay, AGIRC-ARRCO complementary pension 3.15% + 0.86% CEG up to the ceiling (8.64% + 1.08% above it), CSG 9.20% and CRDS 0.50% on 98.25% of gross pay. Cadres also pay 0.024% APEC.

Which income tax rates are used?

The latest published barème, from the 2026 finance law (for 2025 income): 0% up to 11,600 € per part, 11% to 29,579 €, 30% to 84,577 €, 41% to 181,917 € and 45% above. The barème for 2026 income will be set by the 2027 finance law, so treat the tax as an estimate.

How is taxable income worked out?

Net taxable pay is gross pay minus deductible contributions (CSG non déductible and CRDS stay taxable). A 10% allowance for work expenses (minimum 509 €, maximum 14,555 €) is then taken off, and the result is divided by your number of parts. The quotient familial benefit is capped at 1,807 € per extra half-part, and a décote reduces small tax bills.

How does this relate to prélèvement à la source?

Employers withhold income tax monthly at a rate set by the tax office from your last return. This calculator estimates the yearly tax that withholding aims to collect; your personal rate and payslip deduction can differ.

What about employer contributions?

The employer figure adds the main employer contributions at full rates (health 13%, family 5.25%, old age, unemployment 4%, AGIRC-ARRCO and others). Reduced rates for lower salaries, the réduction générale, accident insurance, training taxes, mobility levy and health insurance or provident schemes are not included, so real employer cost is usually lower for low and middle salaries.

Is this an official calculator?

No. This is an estimate, not tax advice. Mutuelle and prévoyance contributions, overtime exemptions and couples with two incomes are not included. Check your payslip, impots.gouv.fr (Direction générale des Finances publiques) or URSSAF for your exact figures.
