Frequently Asked Questions
What are the PIT rates on salary in Vietnam for 2026?
The new Personal Income Tax Law (No. 109/2025/QH15) cut the salary schedule from 7 bands to 5. On monthly taxable income: 5% up to VND 10 million, 10% up to VND 30 million, 20% up to VND 60 million, 30% up to VND 100 million and 35% above. The law takes effect on 1 July 2026, with some salary provisions applying from 1 January 2026.
How much are the family deductions?
From 1 January 2026 (Resolution 110/2025/UBTVQH15) you deduct VND 15.5 million a month for yourself and VND 6.2 million for each registered dependant, up from VND 11 million and VND 4.4 million. Compulsory insurance is also deducted before tax.
How much insurance is deducted from my salary?
Employees pay 8% social insurance, 1.5% health insurance and 1% unemployment insurance, 10.5% in total. Employers pay 17.5%, 3% and 1%, 21.5% in total. Social and health insurance are capped at 20 times the reference level: VND 50.6 million a month from 1 July 2026 (VND 46.8 million before). Unemployment insurance is capped at 20 times the regional minimum wage, from VND 74 million in Region IV to VND 106.2 million in Region I.
Which minimum wage region am I in?
Decree 293/2025 sets the 2026 regional minimum wages at VND 5,310,000 (Region I, mainly the big cities), VND 4,730,000 (Region II), VND 4,140,000 (Region III) and VND 3,700,000 (Region IV). Your region depends on the commune or ward where you work; it only changes the unemployment insurance cap here.
Is this an official tax calculator?
No. This is an estimate, not official tax advice. It uses the published PIT schedule, family deductions and insurance rates, but your employer’s payroll, exempt allowances and finalisation can change the figure. Check with the General Department of Taxation, Vietnam Social Security or your HR team.
What is not included?
Exempt allowances (such as lunch or phone allowances within limits), overtime and night-shift pay (exempt), trade union fees, foreign employees’ different insurance rules, non-resident 20% tax and voluntary pension contributions are not included. A yearly bonus is spread over 12 months, which can differ from how your employer taxes it.
