Frequently Asked Questions
Is there income tax on salaries in Saudi Arabia?
No. Saudi Arabia does not tax employment income of individuals, whether Saudi or expatriate. Zakat and corporate income tax apply to businesses, not to your salary.
How much GOSI is deducted from a Saudi employee?
Under the rules for people already insured before 3 July 2024, a Saudi employee pays 9% for annuities (pension) and 0.75% for SANED unemployment insurance, 9.75% in total. The employer pays 9% annuities, 0.75% SANED and 2% occupational hazards.
What changed under the new Social Insurance Law?
For Saudis who first joined social insurance on or after 3 July 2024, the annuities rate started at 9% each and rises by 0.5 percentage points every July until it reaches 11% each in July 2028. From 1 July 2026 it is 10% for the employee and 10% for the employer. This schedule was confirmed from official statements reported in the press; check your GOSI record for the rate that applies to you.
Do expats pay GOSI?
No employee deduction. For non-Saudi employees the employer pays 2% for occupational hazards only, so an expat’s net salary equals the gross salary unless the employer makes other deductions.
Which salary is GOSI charged on?
GOSI is charged on basic salary plus housing allowance (cash or in kind), up to SAR 45,000 a month. Other allowances such as transport are not included. The minimum contributory wage for Saudis is not applied here.
Is this an official GOSI calculator?
No. This is an estimate, not official advice. It uses the published GOSI rates, but your registration date and contract can change the figure, so check your GOSI account or ask HR.
