Frequently Asked Questions
What are the income tax rates in Korea?
Taxable income is taxed at 6% up to ₩14 million, 15% to ₩50 million, 24% to ₩88 million, 35% to ₩150 million, 38% to ₩300 million, 40% to ₩500 million, 42% to ₩1 billion and 45% above. Local income tax adds 10% of the income tax.
How much are the four social insurances in 2026?
Employees pay National Pension 4.75% (the total rose from 9% to 9.5% in 2026), health insurance 3.595% (half of 7.19%), long-term care insurance about 0.47% (13.14% of the health premium) and employment insurance 0.9%. The pension is charged on monthly pay between ₩400,000 and ₩6.37 million until June 2026 and ₩410,000 to ₩6.59 million from July 2026.
Which deductions and credits are included?
The calculator applies the earned income deduction (capped at ₩20 million), ₩1.5 million basic deduction per person you choose, deductions for your pension and insurance premiums, and the earned income tax credit with its salary-based limit. The non-taxable meal allowance of up to ₩200,000 a month is excluded from tax and insurance.
Why can my payslip differ?
Monthly withholding uses the simplified NTS withholding table, and the year-end settlement then adds credits for children, card spending, insurance, medical, education, rent and pension savings. This calculator estimates the final year-end tax with only the items listed above, so most people pay a little less in the end.
How sure are these figures?
Tax rates, deductions and insurance rates were checked against the NTS, PwC tax summaries and NHIS notices. The earned income tax credit limits come from Income Tax Act article 59 but could not be re-checked against the official text online when this page was updated, so treat them as unverified.
Is this an official calculator?
No. This is an estimate, not tax advice. It uses published rates, but your payroll and year-end settlement can differ, so check with the National Tax Service (NTS) or Hometax.
