Frequently Asked Questions

How is the impuesto único calculated in Chile?

The impuesto único de segunda categoría is withheld monthly. Your taxable pay is your gross imponible pay minus your AFP contribution (10% plus commission), health (7%) and your seguro de cesantía share. The SII table is set in UTM: exempt up to 13.5 UTM, then 4%, 8%, 13.5%, 23%, 30.4%, 35% and 40% above 310 UTM. Because the UTM changes every month, the peso table changes every month too. This calculator uses the November 2026 table (UTM $72,440), where the first $977,940 is tax-free.

How much does the AFP take from my salary?

You pay 10% of your taxable pay into your pension account plus your AFP’s commission, which in 2026 ranges from 0.46% (AFP Uno) to 1.45% (AFP Provida). Contributions stop at the 2026 cap of 90.0 UF a month (about $3.71 million at the UF of 31 October 2026).

What does my employer pay on top?

From August 2026 your employer pays a 3.5% pension contribution under the 2025 pension reform (Ley 21.735), which now includes the disability and survivors insurance (SIS). It also pays 2.4% unemployment insurance on an indefinite contract (3% on a fixed-term contract) and at least 0.93% for work-accident insurance (Ley 16.744). The pension rate rises to 4.25% from August 2027 and keeps rising each August until it reaches 8.5% in 2033.

I have an Isapre, not Fonasa. Is that included?

The calculator uses the legal 7% health contribution, which is what Fonasa members pay. If your Isapre plan costs more than 7%, the extra comes out of your pay too and only the 7% (up to the cap) lowers your tax, so your real take-home will be lower than shown.

Is this an official SII calculator?

No. This is an estimate, not official tax advice. It uses the published SII, Superintendencia de Pensiones and Dirección del Trabajo rates, but gratificación rules, overtime, Isapre plans, the risk-based mutual rate and your employer’s payroll can change the figure. Check your liquidación de sueldo or ask HR, and see sii.cl for the tax table.

Does it work for yearly salaries?

Yes. Switch Pay Period to Yearly and enter your annual figures. The tax is worked out monthly, as the SII does, using the November 2026 table, and multiplied by 12. Real annual tax varies slightly because the table changes each month with the UTM.
