Frequently Asked Questions
How is IRPF withholding worked out?
Employers use the Agencia Tributaria withholding algorithm: your pay minus Social Security, minus €2,000 of other expenses and the work income reduction, is run through the withholding scale (19% to 47%), and the tax on the €5,550 personal allowance is taken off. The result is turned into a withholding rate, truncated to two decimals.
Is this the same as the IRPF I will owe?
Not exactly. Withholding is a prepayment. Your final IRPF in the annual return (Renta) uses the state scale plus your region's scale and deductions, so you may get a refund or have more to pay. Regional scales are not included here.
What Social Security do employees pay in 2026?
On a permanent contract: 4.70% common contingencies, 1.55% unemployment, 0.10% training and 0.15% intergenerational equity (MEI), 6.50% in total, on pay up to €5,101.20 a month. Temporary contracts pay 1.60% unemployment. Above that cap a small solidarity contribution applies.
What does my employer pay?
On a permanent contract 30.65% (23.60% common contingencies, 5.50% unemployment, 0.20% FOGASA, 0.60% training, 0.75% MEI) on capped pay, plus their share of the solidarity contribution. Work accident insurance (AT/EP) depends on the activity and is not included.
Are children, age or disability included?
No. The calculator assumes a single person or one whose spouse has income (family situation 3), under 65, with no children or disability. Children and other personal circumstances lower the withholding rate.
Is this an official Agencia Tributaria calculator?
No. This is an estimate, not tax advice. It follows the AEAT 2026 withholding algorithm in simplified form, so check your payslip or the Agencia Tributaria withholding calculator for your exact figures.
