Frequently Asked Questions

How is retención en la fuente on salaries calculated in 2026?

Under procedure 1, your employer takes the month’s labour income, subtracts the mandatory health, pension and solidarity fund contributions, then subtracts deductions (such as dependants) and the 25% exempt labour income. Together, deductions and exemptions cannot exceed 40% of income after contributions, or 1,340 UVT a year. The remaining base is converted to UVT (COL$ 52,374 in 2026) and taxed with the article 383 table: nothing up to 95 UVT, then 19%, 28%, 33%, 35%, 37% and 39%.

How much is deducted for salud and pensión?

Employees pay 4% for health and 4% for pension on their salary (the IBC), which cannot exceed 25 minimum wages (COL$ 43,772,625 a month in 2026). If you earn 4 minimum wages or more you also pay 1% to the Fondo de Solidaridad Pensional, rising in steps to 2% above 20 minimum wages. The employer pays 12% pension, 8.5% health (waived for most companies for workers under 10 minimum wages), ARL and parafiscal contributions.

What are the minimum wage and transport allowance for 2026?

The minimum wage (SMMLV) is COL$ 1,750,905 a month (Decreto 1469 de 2025) and the auxilio de transporte is COL$ 249,095 (Decreto 1470 de 2025), paid to workers earning up to 2 minimum wages. The minimum wage decree was briefly suspended by the Consejo de Estado in February 2026, but the same amount stayed in force through a transitory decree and the suspension was lifted in July 2026. The nullity case is still pending.

How are the annual limits applied each month?

The 25% exemption is capped at 790 UVT a year and the overall cap at 1,340 UVT a year. This calculator spreads both evenly, 1/12 per month. Some employers apply the annual cap cumulatively instead, which gives a bigger exemption early in the year and none later, so your month-by-month withholding can differ even though the yearly limit is the same.

Does it handle salario integral, primas and the 2027 pension reform?

No. Salario integral (contributions on 70% of pay), the primas de servicios, cesantías, vacations, voluntary pension or AFC savings, prepaid health and housing interest deductions are not included. The pension reform (Ley 2381 de 2024) is scheduled to take effect on 1 April 2027 and may change the solidarity fund rates; 2026 figures use the current Ley 100 rules.

Is this an official DIAN calculator?

No. This is an estimate, not official tax advice. Withholding is only a prepayment: your final income tax is settled in the annual return, where other deductions (such as 72 UVT per dependant) may apply. Check your payslip, your employer’s payroll team or the DIAN for your exact figures.
