Frequently Asked Questions

What are the PAYE rates in Rwanda for 2026?

Monthly employment income is taxed at 0% up to RWF 60,000, 10% from RWF 60,001 to 100,000, 20% from RWF 100,001 to 200,000 and 30% above RWF 200,000. There is no personal allowance on top of the 0% band.

How much is the RSSB pension contribution?

Since 1 January 2025 the pension contribution is 12% of gross salary, including housing and transport allowances: 6% from you and 6% from your employer. The total is scheduled to rise by 2 points a year from 1 January 2027 (14%) to 20% in 2030, subject to an actuarial review. This calculator uses the 12% rate in force today.

What are the maternity leave and CBHI deductions?

The maternity leave contribution is 0.6% of gross salary excluding transport allowance, split 0.3% employee and 0.3% employer. CBHI (Mutuelle de Santé) takes 0.5% of your net salary. The law does not define net salary, so we use gross pay minus PAYE and your RSSB contributions, as payroll systems commonly do.

Are pension contributions deducted before PAYE?

No. In Rwanda PAYE is charged on your gross employment income, including allowances. Your RSSB contributions come out of taxed pay.

Is this an official RRA calculator?

No. This is an estimate, not official tax advice. It uses published RRA and RSSB rates, but benefits in kind, a second employer, casual labour rules and your employer’s payroll can change the figure, so check with the Rwanda Revenue Authority or RSSB and your payslip.

Does it work for yearly salaries?

Yes. Switch Pay Period to Yearly and enter your annual figures. PAYE is worked out monthly, as RRA does, and multiplied by 12.
