Frequently Asked Questions

What are the salary tax brackets in Egypt for 2026?

The brackets set by Law 7 of 2024 (in force since 1 March 2024) apply to annual net income after social insurance and the EGP 20,000 personal exemption: first EGP 40,000 at 0%, up to 55,000 at 10%, up to 70,000 at 15%, up to 200,000 at 20%, up to 400,000 at 22.5%, up to 1,200,000 at 25% and 27.5% above that. Net income is rounded down to the nearest EGP 10.

Why does my tax jump above EGP 600,000?

Higher earners lose the lower brackets. Above EGP 600,000 of annual net income the 0% bracket is lost (the first 55,000 is taxed at 10%); above 700,000 the 10% bracket is also lost; above 800,000 the 15% bracket; above 900,000 the 20% bracket; and above 1,200,000 the whole first 1,200,000 is taxed at 25% and the rest at 27.5%. The calculator applies this rule automatically.

How much social insurance is deducted?

Under Social Insurance Law 148 of 2019 you pay 11% of your monthly contribution wage and your employer pays 18.75%. From 1 January 2026 the contribution wage is at least EGP 2,700 and at most EGP 16,700 a month, so the most an employee pays is EGP 1,837 a month. Your share is deducted before salary tax is worked out.

What is the Martyrs’ Fund deduction?

Law 16 of 2018, as amended by Law 4 of 2021, requires employers to deduct 0.05% (5 per 10,000) of each employee’s monthly salary for the Martyrs’ Fund. It is small (EGP 10 on a 20,000 salary) and does not reduce your taxable income.

Is this an official Egyptian Tax Authority calculator?

No. This is an estimate, not official tax advice. It uses the published law and NOSI limits, but allowances excluded from the contribution wage, insurance premiums, Universal Health Insurance in covered governorates and your employer’s payroll can change the figure, so check your payslip or ask the Egyptian Tax Authority or NOSI. The 2026 income tax changes (Law 151 of 2026) were checked from professional summaries, which report no change to salary brackets.

Will the rates change in 2027?

Probably. NOSI raises the minimum and maximum contribution wage every January, and Law 148 of 2019 raises the contribution rates by 1 point every seven years from 2020, shared between employer and employee. New limits had not been announced when we checked, so this calculator uses the 2026 figures.
