Frequently Asked Questions
What are the Irish tax bands for 2026?
A single person pays 20% on the first €44,000 and 40% on the rest. A single person child carer gets a €48,000 standard rate band, and a married couple or civil partners with one income get €53,000. Tax credits are then taken off the tax.
Which tax credits are included?
Everyone gets the €2,000 Personal Tax Credit (€4,000 for a married couple) and the €2,000 Employee (PAYE) Tax Credit. A single person child carer also gets the €1,900 Single Person Child Carer Credit. Other credits, such as rent, home carer or medical expenses, are not included.
How is USC worked out in 2026?
USC is 0.5% on the first €12,012, 2% up to €28,700, 3% up to €70,044 and 8% above that. If your total income is €13,000 or less you pay no USC; above that it applies to all of your income. Reduced rates for medical card holders and people over 70 are not included.
How much PRSI will I pay?
Most employees pay Class A PRSI of 4.35% on all their earnings from 1 October 2026 (4.2% until 30 September 2026). There is no PRSI if you earn €352 a week or less, and a PRSI credit reduces it between €352 and €424 a week. Employers pay 11.40%, or 9.15% if you earn €552 a week or less.
How is my pension treated?
Pension contributions get income tax relief at your highest rate, but they do not reduce USC or PRSI. Revenue limits relief by age (15% of earnings under 30 up to 40% at 60 and over) and on earnings up to €115,000. The calculator applies the earnings cap but does not check your age limit.
Is this an official Revenue calculator?
No. This is an estimate, not tax advice. It works on a whole-year basis with the PRSI rates in force from 1 October 2026, so check your payslip or myAccount with Revenue for your exact figures.
