Frequently Asked Questions

What are the Dutch income tax brackets for 2026?

If you are below AOW (state pension) age, box 1 income is taxed at 35.75% up to €38,883, 37.56% up to €78,426 and 49.50% above that. The first two rates include national insurance premiums (AOW, Anw and Wlz) of 27.65%.

Which tax credits are included?

The general tax credit (algemene heffingskorting) of up to €3,115, reduced by 6.398% of income above €29,736 to nil at €78,426, and the labour tax credit (arbeidskorting) of up to €5,685, reached at €45,592 and reduced to nil at €132,920. Credits cannot bring tax below zero here.

Is holiday allowance included?

Only if you tick the option. Dutch employees are normally paid at least 8% holiday allowance (vakantiegeld) on top of their salary, usually in May or June. If your quoted salary already includes it, leave the box unticked.

What does my employer pay on top?

The calculator shows the employer health insurance levy (Zvw) of 6.10%, the low unemployment premium (AWf) of 2.74% for permanent contracts and the low disability premium (Aof) of 6.27% for small employers, all on wages up to €79,409. Sector and WGA/ZW premiums vary by employer and are not included.

Is the 30% ruling included?

No. The 30% ruling for expats, AOW-age rates, box 2 and box 3 income, the healthcare allowance and other credits for parents are not included, so your real pay may differ.

Is this an official Belastingdienst calculator?

No. This is an estimate, not tax advice. It works out your yearly tax with the 2026 tables and spreads it over 12 months, while employers use monthly withholding tables, so check your payslip or the Belastingdienst for your exact figures.
